The karkhana opened in 2018 in a two-room workshop in South Delhi. It was never meant to scale. Reshambagh wanted a space where embroiderers, tailors, and designers could work at arm's reach from each other — where a question about a seam could be answered by looking, not by sending a message. That space is still what it was. We have added people, not floors.

Every collection begins with a sketchbook and a month of looking — rooted in the craft traditions of Lucknow, drawing from the heritage handwork of Aminabad and the embroidery lineages of the city.

Twenty-four years at the cutting table. Rahul learned his trade from his father — a master from the Lucknawi tailoring tradition — and brought those proportions with him to the karkhana.

Lead Embroideress

Third-generation karigari. Meena's family has worked in Lucknow's embroidery quarter for over sixty years. She runs the embroidery workshop and trains the newer hands in the studio.

The workspace

A room built for looking

The cutting table is eighty years old. It came from a tailor's shop in Chandni Chowk and we rebuilt the legs but kept the wood — it has the right height for standing work and the right smell for a studio.

Natural light from the north window. No overhead fluorescents. Every colour decision is made in daylight because that is the light most garments will be seen in.

The loom in the corner is not decorative. It is how we test cloth behaviour before we order a full length — every warp and weft we specify gets a sample run.

What we believe

Three things that do not change

Craft

We make nothing that a machine could make better. Embroidery, finishing, buttonholes — each is done by hand because no machine has the eye for what a hand notices.

Time

No piece leaves in fewer than eight weeks. We don't hold a second fitting until the first fitting is right. The garment is ready when the garment is ready.

Cloth

We source only natural fibres, from weavers and mills we visit in person. The cloth is chosen before the design — sometimes the cloth is the design.
